Internship & Practicum Program

Michelle Harleman, LCSW, C-DBT, EMDR
Trained Internship Supervisor
As the Internship Supervisor and co-leader of our DBT group, my goal is to support you in developing your clinical identity while strengthening your skills and confidence as an emerging therapist. I encourage interns to be curious, reflective, and open to creative, “outside-the-box” thinking as they begin their professional journey.
An internship is a pivotal part of your graduate training, and you can expect consistent guidance, structured supervision, and weekly support throughout your experience, with additional availability as needed. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, I am committed to helping interns grow both professionally and personally. I strongly believe that sustainable self-care is essential to this work, and I support interns in developing practices that allow them to thrive in both their careers and their lives.
Thu-Ha Le, LPC, CCTP, C-DBT, EMDR
Certified Lead Clinical Supervisor
As the Lead Clinical Supervisor, I’m passionate about helping our interns build the confidence, clinical skills, and professional identity needed to become effective and a compassionate therapist. Beginning an internship can feel both exciting and overwhelming, and my goal is to provide steady guidance and support as you navigate this important stage of your training.
With over 10 years of clinical experience, I work closely with interns to help them develop clinical insight, strengthen therapeutic skills, and grow into well-rounded professionals. My hope is that by the end of your internship, you not only feel confident in your work with patients but also trust in your abilities as a developing clinician.

Training the Next Generation of Thoughtful, Skilled Clinicians
The Calm Space internship program is designed to support graduate-level counseling and social work students as they transition from academic learning into meaningful clinical practice. Our program emphasizes intentional supervision, professional identity development, and real-world clinical experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.
We believe the practicum year should be a protected learning experience, where education, mentorship, and skill development are prioritized. Interns are given the opportunity to build confidence, develop their therapeutic voice, and learn how to navigate the complexities of clinical work with guidance and support.
Our goal is to help interns grow into ethical, compassionate, and competent therapists who feel confident entering the mental health field.
Our Training Philosophy
At The Calm Space, supervision serves as the foundation of the practicum experience and connects every element of the internship program.
While training remains the primary focus, interns also gain meaningful clinical exposure that prepares them for the pacing and responsibilities of professional practice. Through gradual skill development, interns build competence in case conceptualization, therapeutic interventions, and professional decision-making.
Each intern experience begins with an evaluation of their existing knowledge, skills, and professional goals. From there, supervisors intentionally structure training opportunities that align with developmentally appropriate responsibilities.
As interns gain confidence and clinical experience, expectations expand gradually. This progressive approach ensures interns develop the ability to manage clinical work in a way that is competent, ethical, and sustainable.
Our Practice Culture
The Calm Space was created with the intention of building a clinical environment that supports both clients and clinicians.
Our practice values authenticity, collaboration, and thoughtful care. We believe that therapists do their best work when they feel supported, connected, and encouraged to continue growing in their profession.

Interns joining our team become part of a culture that values:

Thoughtful, client-centered care

What Makes Our Internship Different
At The Calm Space, we intentionally structure our internship program to provide a balance of clinical training, mentorship, and professional growth within a supportive group practice environment.
Unlike large agency settings where interns may feel like additional staff, our program prioritizes learning, reflection, and skill development throughout the practicum year.
What makes our internship experience unique:
Protected Training Environment
Your practicum year is treated as a learning experience first. Supervision, mentorship, and professional development are prioritized so you can grow confidently in your clinical role.
Intentional Skill Development
Interns move through a structured developmental process that gradually builds clinical responsibility while maintaining strong supervisory support.
Exposure to Multiple Clinical Perspectives
Interns have opportunities to learn from multiple clinicians within the practice, gaining exposure to different therapeutic styles, specialties, and approaches.
Collaborative Practice Culture
The Calm Space values teamwork and connection. Interns are welcomed as part of the clinical community and encouraged to participate in team discussions, consultation, and shared learning.
Sustainability & Clinician Wellness
We believe that strong clinicians learn early how to maintain balance in their work. Our program emphasizes self-awareness, boundaries, and sustainable clinical practice.
