Brett Paxton, LSW

Therapist

As a male, we ‘re often told that we shouldn’t talk about our negative inner thoughts and feelings that we have throughout our lives. My rebellious curiosity regarding the matter got the better of me, which led to my decision to follow this career. I started my career receiving my master’s degree in social work at NYU’s Silver School of Social Work. My first fruitful experience was working as an outpatient therapist intern for the VA. It provided me with more insight into the dangers we face when we spend years internalizing our emotions. Ultimately, this only reinforced my passion for navigating the realm of our mental health. After graduating, I decided to work in hospice for the next two years to expand on my scope of knowledge and understanding of how we navigate a wide range of emotions that coincides with one of the most vulnerable moments of one's life. However, I learned so much more. I learned how important it was for us to prioritize our family, community, and our faith.

My counseling style utilizes a holistic approach emphasizing a strength-based perspective. Holistic health is about nurturing every aspect of a person—body, mind, spirit, and relationships—to foster overall well-being and balance. I like to utilize a combination of CBT and DBT. I specialize in grief and loss, anxiety, depression, anger management, and PTSD.  My goal is to create a space that allows anyone the opportunity to process difficult feelings and experiences.
